HIKING HAS MULTIPLE DIMENSIONS
When we talk about hiking, we are actually talking about several different types of sports. Although historically, hiking is an outdoor activity in a natural environment searching to get away from it all, but over time, this sport has become more and more specialized and we can now reference several sports.
- Nature hiking: outdoors, in forests, in the countryside, by the seaside, nature hiking corresponds to each sportsman/woman who wishes to relax, discover, do physical exercise on accessible terrain with low elevation.
- Mountain hiking: characterized by a significant elevation on technical terrain, with changeable weather conditions. It is the ideal sport for athletes who want to excel themselves and enjoy breath-taking views and landscapes.
- Snow hiking: characterized by a snowy environment with or without elevation. It corresponds to each sportsman/woman who wants to take a breath of fresh air, take advantage of the day’s light, the noise and the smell of snow. It allows you to experience winter and nature.
- Trekking: hiking over several days in partial or total autonomy. Set up your bivouac at dusk, take the time to look at the stars, discover new landscapes every day, that's the spirit of trek.
HIGH-PERFORMANCE CLOTHING FOR HIKING AND TREKKING
Hikers and trekkers alternate between moments of maintained physical effort and calmer moments. Staying warm and dry in hiking gear throughout the hike is essential. The construction of a hiking or trekking outfit must be carried out efficiently, each element having its own importance so that the body is fully protected. It is also very important to take care when choosing hiking shoes/boots so that you make the most of your outdoor experience.
THREE PRIORITY OBJECTIVES, WARMTH, PROTECTION AND COMFORT
The clothes that we wear on the skin, hiking t-shirts or warm underwear, are intended to evacuate perspiration to the outside. Second layer clothing is for warmth. The hiking fleece is ideal for this. Lighter than a sweater but more or less warm depending on the weight of the fabric, it dries quickly. If the sensation of heat is excessive, this layer is removed quickly. To withstand the cold, rain and snow, a truly waterproof performance third layer garment is essential in the mountains. The choice of hiking or trekking clothing targets comfort, flexibility and adaptation to climatic conditions. The thickness of the clothes and their lightness play an important role and hiking and trekking shorts, present a set of perfect qualities for the exercise of this sport. Light and robust, highly breathable and with a windproof or waterproof effect, the jackets offer protection against the elements and facilitate good ease of movement. When it comes to socks , it is moisture that must be avoided at all costs. Synthetic fibers or wool are recommended depending on the type of hike. Having suitable shoes is essential to prevent any falls and to be able to hike in comfort. Once the blisters have been caught, hiking can become a real ordeal.
IF YOU TALK ABOUT HIKING, THEN YOU MUST ALSO TALK ABOUT CAMPING AND BIVOUAC
Once you’ve finished your hike, it’s necessary to find comfort at the campsite, thanks to Decathlon’s camping offer. Creating a specific sleeping/resting space inside a tent, preparing a good meal with a cooking set and a stove or even sitting down on hiking camp furniture. For trekking, bivouac is at the heart of this sport. Pitching the bivouac at nightfall, taking time to look at the stars, discovering different landscapes every day, that’s the Trek spirit.
