Whether you are at your camp, or doing a sporting activity (hiking, mountain biking, trekking, etc.) it is essential to stay hydrated. In Decathlon, Quechua and Forclaz make a big difference between water bladders (camelbak type) and simple water bottles. A water bladder can slip into your backpack and allows you to drink directly from the drinking tube without having to stop. Water bottles are generally carried in a specific pocket of your backpack: therefore, less practical than a water bladder.
How do you choose the right bottle or water bladder?
The choice of your product must be made according to 3 criteria: the opening system, the volume and the material. For each of these three criteria, you will have different choices. For water bottle opening systems, you will find the standard screw cap, the quick opening cap and the straw-style instant opening cap. For volumes, you will find a wide choice from 500 ml up to 3 L. Finally, for materials, you can choose between simple plastic, Tritan or aluminium. Plastic is resistant, transparent but non-insulating. Tritan is unbreakable, light, tasteless and odourless, transparent but non-isothermal. Aluminium is very resistant, light, tasteless and odourless but non-insulating.
What types of water bottles do I use for what type of activity?
- For a sporting activity, we recommend that you choose either a water bladder or one with an instant opening cap, straw-style;
- For children, we would recommend a small bottle, so it is lighter, and made from a resistant material;
- You will also find insulating covers which can be very useful during hot weather.
